Private Harold Hood was born in Beverley in 1891. On the 1901 census his father George Hood is listed as a widower, living off Wilbert Lane with one daughter, Kate aged 14 and two sons Harold and Robert George. Their mother Alice died in 1895 a year after Roberts birth. Harold was working as a tanner's labourer in 1911 and enlisted in 1914 following his brother into the 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards. In 1915 he was transferred to the Guards Machine Gun Division. Harold served until Jul 1916 when he was wounded and sent to the Red Cross Hospital in Bakewell, Derbyshire. He was awarded the 1914 Star, the Victory Medal and the British War Medal. He married Ada Wells form Leeds in 1917. He died in Bradford in 1958
