Reuben George who on some records is called Robert George or George Rueben Hood was born the 6 Mar 1894, he was the second son of George and Alice Hood. Alice died just one year after giving birth to George Robert, she is buried in St Martin`s burial ground Cartwright Lane, Beverley. Her widower married Susan in 1904, the 1911 census list her as Irish.

George Reuben enlisted in the Coldstream Guards in 1911, and served three years with 9 years on the reserve, when he returned home and joined the East Riding Constabulary in Jul 1914. On joining the police force he was 5 foot 11 inches, had a fresh complexion, brown hair and blue eyes. By August he has been recalled to the colours at the outbreak of war, and did not return to the police service until 1919. After mobilization training he went to France taking part in the Battle of Mons where he was wounded in the left ankle by a piece of shrapnel. The Beverley Guardian reported him wounded again on 20 Jun 1916. In 1917 he married Elizabeth Pearson from Richmond, North Yorkshire He died in 1941 at the age of 47.
