Percy Holdstock was born 1894 in Beverley, the son of Matthew and Eliza Holdstock. Percy had 3 siblings, Thomas born 1887, Jessie born 1898 and John William born 1894. The 1911 Census shows the Holdstock family living at 9 Silvester Lane, Walkergate, Beverley.

Private Percy Holdstock enlisted with the East Yorkshire Regiment on 28 Sep 1914. He served in both Egypt and France where he was wounded in Aug 1916. Percy was transferred from the East Yorkshire Regiment (12th Battalion) to the Northumberland Fusiliers. He was discharged on 7 Jan 1918. According to the ‘Proceedings on Discharge’ paper he was described as being a serviceman of ‘Very Good’ character. Percy was awarded the Victory, British and the 15 Star medals.

Percy married Mary Jennison at All Saints Church, Sculcoates on 4 Aug 1918 at the age of 25. His occupation is listed as labourer. They lived at 6 Cave Terrace, Cave Street, Hull and do not appear to have had any children. Percy died in Dec 1950 in Hull at the age of 56.
