Thomas Hearon was born in Beverley about 1878, his mother and grandparents were originally from Ireland. In the 1891 census Thomas is shown aged 12 living with his widowed grandmother, Bridget, at Hinds Yard, Beverley.
Between 1899 and 1902 he served in the Army and with the 2nd Battalion Northumberland Fusilliers, was in action in the Second Boer War in South Africa and received medals for taking part in the conflicts in Cape Colony and the Orange Free State in 1901 and 1902. In the 1911 census he is shown as again living in Beverley at Burton Terrace, and was employed as a Tanners Labourer. Living with him at that time was his mother, Ellen Kennedy. Later that same year he married Florence Dobson. Thomas was killed in action on 2 Sep 1916, while serving with the West Yorkshire Regiment, 11th (Service) Battalion, with the British Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders. He is buried in Berks Cemetery Extension which is at Ploegsteert, Belgium
