James Fuller was born in Hull the 19 Nov 1887, his father was William and his mother was Martha, he had sisters Emily and Ada and brother Robert, they lived on Eton Street, off Hessle Road. In 1911 both James and his father worked for the Hull and Barnsley Railway. James was a paid-up member of the National Union of Railway men until he enlisted in December 1915.

James joined the 3rd Battalion of the Grenadier Guards, after the various Guards Units were brought together to form the 2nd Guards Brigade Guards Division in Aug 1915. They remained on the western front involved in all the major battles until the conclusion of the war. James was wounded and was one of 174,491 men taken prisoner. At least half of these were captured between Mar and Nov 1918. James was repatriated to the King George Hospital, London in the autumn of 1918.

James survived the war returning to work for the Hull and Barnsley railway as a crossing keeper in Hull. He married Rose Williams in 1937 and died aged 67 in 1954.

He was awarded the British War Medal, Victory Medal and Silver War Badge and is commemorated on the Hull and Barnsley Roll of Honour supplementary list under Goods and Loco department.
