Arthur Featherstone was born in 1888 in Malton, North Yorkshire to James & Elizabeth Featherstone (nee Wherritt), an agricultural Labourer. Elizabeth died in 1889 leaving James with baby Arthur and his 2 years old sister Ann. In the 1891 census Arthur is a Nurse Child living with a different family at School House Hill, Pickering. James was living with his parents and 4 years old Ann in Knapton, Pickering. James married Helen Head in 1892 and Arthur, Ann and their half siblings, Alice, Charles and Fred were all living with together in Knapton.

Arthur joined the army prior to 1911 and is shown on the 1911 census as being a Lance Corporal with the 1st East Yorkshire Regiment, at the Salamanca Barracks, Aldershot. In 1915 Arthur married Annie Elizabeth Oxtoby. He was killed in action on 9 Aug 1915 in the Dardanelles, Turkey.

Arthur was awarded the 1914 Star and Victory medal. At the time of his death he was a Sergeant with 6th Battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment. His will with Administration dated 11 Apr 1917 shows an estate worth £157 2s 2d.
