Thomas Fowler was born in Hornsea in 1899, the only son of William and Elizabeth Fowler. He had a sister, Maria. His father William was a tailor. Thomas was baptised 26 Feb 1899 at Hornsea church. He attended Hornsea School and afterwards Hull Grammar school. After leaving school he was employed as a clerk for a timber merchant in Hull.
At the beginning of the war he trained with the Lincolnshire Yeomanry and was transferred to the 10th Battalion of the Essex Regiment. Private Fowler was killed in action in France during the final Allied advance on 2 Sep 1918. It is not known the circumstances of his death. He was 19 years old. He is remembered on the Vis- En- Artois Memorial in Pas de Calais,France. Thomas was awarded the Victory and British medals
