George William Elliott the son of Henry and Mary Elliott and was born in Hornsea the 5 Mar 1894, one of four children. He lived on 3 Sloe Lane, Beverley and worked for the North Eastern Railway Company as a platelayer.
George enlisted on 12 Nov 1914 and served with the Royal Engineers Railway Troops as a sapper. He served throughout the war and received the British War Medal, the Victory Medal and the 15 Star Medal for service in France
He married Theodora Raney at the Baptist Church in Beverley on 3 Dec 1918. They had 4 children Ernest, George, Nancy and Kathleen and continued to live in Beverley, returning to work on the railway
