Charles Edward Everett was born in Lodden, Norfolk in 1891.His parents were Charles and Elizabeth. They lived at 48 The Street,Topcroft, Norfolk. He had two brothers, Frederick and Lenord and five sisters Grace, Patience, Honor, Fanny and Hilda. Before he joined the Army he was a Market Gardener.

Charles joined the East Yorkshire Regiment on the 13 Jul 1913. His regiment number was 10060. He was based at The Rich, Withernsea. After his training he was sent across to France. He was discharged from France as medically unfit with Jaundice and Trabes Mentemcia (a form of Tubercolis) aggravated by exposure. Sanatoriam treatment was recommended. He then joined the Labour Corps with Regiment number 211010.

He married Florence Ethel Reed on 27 May 1916 at Hollym cum Withernsea Church. His wife was born in 1890 and lived at 42 Norwood Far Grove in Beverley. He died on 26 Oct 1917 at The Convalescent Home, Withernsea having been admitted only 5 days before at the age of 28. Charles was buried in St. Mary’s Church New Walk Cemetery, Beverley on 30 Oct 1917 with a full military ceremony. He left a widow and two children, Violet and Leonard (who was only a few weeks old)
