James Leightonhouse Davison was born 10 Oct 1893, the second son of Thomas Davison and Eliza nee Coney, Vicar Lane, Beverley. James was baptised at St. Mary’s Church, Beverley 3 Jan 1894. He had two brothers and four sisters: George Albert (who was wounded in WW1 but survived the war), Hilda Ann, Violet, Hubert Allen, Marjory and Olive May. James was working as a coal porter in 1911, living with his parents at 8 Trinity Lane, Beverley.

James joined the 5th Battalion Yorkshire Hussars (Alexandra, Princess of Wales’ Own Regiment) and was killed in Flanders 16 Feb 1916. His battalion was engaged in fighting in the Ypres area. Records show that James was killed in action but the Register of Soldiers’ Effects states that he died at No. 10 Clearing Station, Abeele (Remy Siding, seven miles west of Ypres). James is remembered at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, West Vlaanderen, Belgium.
