Arthur Dickinson was born the 25 Feb 1899, and baptised at Beverley Minster on the 18 Mar 1899, the son of John and Ann Dickinson. The family lived at 83 Minstermoorgate, Beverley. Arthur enrolled into the Church Lads Brigade in 1913, aged 14. The CLB record him as 'being absent from parade' on 12 Jun 1913 when he was seen ‘marching’ up and down town on the night of the races. Arthur worked as a motor engineer.
Arthur joined the RAF in May 1918, aged 19. He served in France with the RAF from 27 Oct 1918 until 27 Apr 1919 and continued in the RAF Reserves before being discharged in 1940. He was awarded the Victory Medal and British War Medal.
Arthur married Edith Young at Beverley Minster in Sep 1930, they had two sons Neville born 1936 and Ian born 1942. In 1939 Arthur was working as a cake baker, confectioner and the family were living in Eastgate, Beverley. Arthur died in Molescroft, Beverley on 15 Nov 1985.
