Private Joseph Neville Daggitt, second son of Fred and Annie Daggitt, 14 Beaver Road, Beverley was born 1896 at Thearne. The family had previously lived at Weel but had settle along with Josephs siblings Margaret, George, Joseph and Clarence in Beaver Road. Fred was a labourer at the shipyard, George was a riveter heater, Margaret worked at the ropery and Joseph was an errand boy with a firm of printers. As a member of the Church Lads Brigade Joseph was well prepared to enlist into the East Yorkshire Regiment. Joseph received the Victory Medal and British War Medal.
A Jan 1919 copy of the Beverley Guardian reported that of the 66 Beverley men repatriated out of a total of 89 known Prisoners of War, Private J Daggitt was listed as returning. A subsequent list showed who had died whilst in captivity and amongst these was his elder brother Private George Daggitt, 5th Yorkshire Regiment.
In 1922 Joseph married Minnie Senior, from Liverpool Street, Hull, they settled in Beverley. Joseph died in 1975 and Minnie in 1969.
