Thomas Wilfrid Constable was born the 21 Mar 1890 in Beverley, the son of Henry and Ellen Constable (nee Gleadhill). In 1911 Thomas was working as a brewer’s drayman. In 1914 Thomas married Ellen Binks in Beverley, they had five children.
Thomas enlisted with the 8th battalion of the East Yorkshire regiment on 23 Sep 1914 after training he was sent to France on 9 Sep 1915. He saw action at Serre on the Ancre in Nov 1916 when he was seriously injured. He was discharged from the Army on 23 May 1917, unfit for further service. He was awarded the Silver War Badge as well as the 1914-15 Star, and the British and Victory medals.
The family moved to Hull and in 1939 Thomas was working as a stableman for the LNER Railway. Thomas died in 1954 aged 64. Includes information taken from census, military records, Commonwealth War Graves, newspapers |
