Jack Foster was born in Hull in 1896, son of Henry and Mary Foster, he had two brothers and 4 sisters. Before the outbreak of war, he was employed as a butcher.
Jack enlisted with the East Riding Regiment on 28 Oct 1914 and was promoted to lance corporal in Sep1915, rising to corporal in 1916.
Jack served in Gallipoli in 1915, he was injured in Apr 1916. His regiment was deployed to France in 1916 and where he served until 1918.
Jack died of pneumonia on 8 Nov 1918 at St Johns V.A.D hospital in Hull just three days before the end of the war. He is buried in the Western Cemetery, Hull.
