Joseph Nicholson was born in 1894 in Hull Bridge Road, Beverley the son of Levi and Jane Ann Nicholson, nee Hall. In 1911 he was a plough lad on a farm
Joseph enlisted at the beginning of the war with the Yorkshire regiment (Green Howards). He was sent to France in late 1915. He was killed in action on 3 Mar 1917 and was awarded the 1914/1915 star, Victory and British medals. He is remembered on the Thiepval memorial.
