John was born in Beverley in Jan 1897 and was baptised at Lockington Church, the 25 Jul 1897, the son of Robert and Jane Elizabeth Yeoman. Robert worked on the railway as a porter and later as a signalman. By 1911 the family was living in Beverley, and John was working as a labourer.
John joined the army on 11 Dec 1915 at the age of 18 years and 11 months, joining the Northumberland Fusiliers. He was transferred to the South Staffordshire regiment during the war. He was discharged in 1919. He was awarded the Victory and British medals. The 1939 register shows him as a patient in the East Riding Hospital. John died in 1966, and was buried in Queensgate Cemetery, Beverley, on 11 Oct 1966.
