George was born in Beverley the 12 Jun 1884 and baptised the 29 Mar 1885 at St Nicholas’, Beverley, the son of Mark Willliamson and Jane (nee Taylor). The family lived at 13 Cherry Tree Lane and then 12 Trinity Grove, off Grovehill Road, Beverley. Mark was a tanner’s labourer; George became tanner’s labourer, by 1913 he was a porter at Beverley railway station and a member of the NUR.
A photograph of George appeared in the Beverley Guardian dated 12 Apr 1919 with a report staing he had been serving with the 5th Yorkshire Regiment and had been wounded and subsequently discharged from the army as unfit for further service. He was awarded the 1914-15 Star and the War and Victory Medals.
On 1 Mar 1919 George married Mabel Squires at Beverley Minster, they lived on Wilbert Grove, Beverley and had one child, Eric, born 1920. They later moved back to the family home in Trinity Grove and by 1939 George was working at the tannery. He died on 28 Feb 1947 aged 62, and was buried on 4 Mar 1947 at Queensgate Cemetery, Beverley. Mabel died in 1980.
