Arthur Wilde was born in Hull the 11 Apr 1890 and baptised the 30 Apr 1890 at All Saints’ Church, Sculcoates, Hull, the son of Thomas Whitworth Wilde and his wife Julia, nee Harrison, the family were living in Botanic Avenue, Hull but moved to Wilbert Grove, Beverley. Arthur was recorded in 1911 working as a plumber, when war broke out he was working for Mr H Moody in Beverley.
Arthur joined the Royal Engineers as a sapper. He was attached to the Durham Light Infantry in France when he was wounded in the German offensive in late March and early 1918. He was hospitalised in France. He went to France in Sep 1917. He was awarded the War and Victory Medals.
Arthur moved to Bridlington where in 1919 he married Sarah E Rhodes, a farmer’s daughter from Little Weighton. They had one child, Betty, born 5 Jul 1923 in Beverley. In 1939 Arthur was working as a plumber and the family were living on St Stephen’s Road, Bridlington. Sarah died in 1941 and Arthur married Winifred Mary Slack at Bridlington Register Office in 1942. At the time of his death on 16 Jun 1958 Arthur was living at 11 Ashbourne Avenue, Bridlington.
