Private Fred Wright was born the 7 Mar 1897, in Kirk Ella the son of Christopher and Clara Ann Wright and was baptised on 4 Apr 1897. In 1901 the family was living at 20 Kirkella Grange, Anlaby, Christopher was a gardener, by 1911 the family had moved to 45 Keldgate, Beverley, and Fred now aged 14, worked as an errand boy for local grocers.

Fred joined the 5th Yorkshire Regiment in 1914 and soon found himself in France. He was wounded in 1915 and is recorded, in the Beverley Guardian, 10 Jul 1915, as being at home wounded. He eventually recovered from his wounds, went back to France. Fred was awarded, the British War Medal, Victory Star and the 1914-1915, Star.

In 1933 Fred married Annie Padget in Beverley, they had 2 children, Jean and Malcolm. In 1939 Fred was living on Anlaby Road, Hull and was the "manager and buyer" of the Co-op Funeral Service. He served at the beginning of the Second World War, as a "casualty clearance person".

Fred died in Hull, in 1975, aged 78
