Private Thomas Wilson was posted as missing in action after an attack on German positions at Gueudecourt on the Somme on 16 Sep 1916. It was over ten months later when his parents were officially informed of his likely death. His body was never recovered and he is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial on the Somme. He had enlisted in Feb 1916 and spent time with the 1st/4th Battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment before switching to the first.

Thomas was born in Beverley the 19 Dec 1889 and baptised at St Mary’s Church on 17 Mar 1890, the son of George Boss Wilson, a dairyman/milkman and Sarah Jane (nee Morton). The family home was in Wood Lane and later in Vicar Lane.

He is remembered on the Hengate Memorial, the St Mary’s Church Roll of Honour and on the East Riding Memorial in Beverley Minster. He was awarded the War and Victory Medals.
