Robert Willison was born the 5 Jul 1883 in Atwick, the son of Stephen and Betsey Willison (nee Robinson), he attended St Marys Boys School and Minster Boys School, leaving to work as a tanner on 9 Jul 1897. He married Alice Maud Clark on 7 Sep 1907 at Beverley Minster, they had six children.
Robert embarked for France on 10 Sep 1914 as a Private in the 2nd Yorkshire & Lancashire Regiment and was later transferred to the Royal Engineers as a Sapper. He was awarded the 1914/15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. He died in Hull in 1972 and was buried in Beverley Queensgate Cemetery on 5 Oct 1972 aged 89.
