Alfred was born in Beverley the 18 Aug 1898 and was baptised at St Mary`s Church the 14 Sep 1898, the son of John Blakeston Wallis, a groom at Molescroft Hunting Stables, and Mary Ann Wallis. In 1901 the family were living off Tiger Lane, North Bar Within, Beverley. By 1911 the family was living at 17 North Bar Without and Alfred was at school.
Alfred joined the 5th Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment in 1916 and served in two campaigns overseas. In 1917 he served as a private with the Royal Defence Corps. He was granted the Victory and British medals.
Alfred became a painter and decorator in Hull. He married Mary Ann Roberts on 6 Aug 1921 at St Silas Church, Hull. In 1939 they were living at James Reckitt Avenue, Hull and Alfred is recorded as being a ARP warden. Alfred died in 1968 in Hull.
