William Wilfred West was born the 7 Apr 1898 in Beverley and was baptised at Beverley Minister the 8 Oct 1898, the son of Charles Matthew and Elizabeth West (nee Skinner). He was one of 17 children.
William enlisted in the West Yorkshire Regiment on 23 May 1918. According to the Beverley Guardian he was wounded in action and his leg amputated. He was awarded the Silver War medal, the Victory medal and the British medal.
In 1939 William was employed as a labourer in the oil mill and was living at 12 Beckside, Beverley. William married Florence H Slade Bultitude in 1945. He died in Sep 1969 in Hull aged 71.
