Frederick Foxton Watson was born the 8 Apr 1886 in Beverley, the son of Frederick, a watchmaker of Wilbert Grove, and Emma Watson. Watch making was a family calling as Frederick Foxton's father, grandfather and elder brother Benjamin were all watchmakers.

Fred enlisted with the 1st Battalion, the Coldstream Guards, at the outbreak of war, he came home on leave just once and he achieved the rank of Lance Sergeant. Prior to enlisting Fred was a coal merchant's clerk. He was killed in action on 21 Sep 1916 during the Battle of the Somme at the age of 30. He awarded the British Medal, the Victory Medal and the 1915 Star. He is buried in the Corbie Communal Cemetery Extension, France.

Fred is remembered on the Beverley War Memorial and the Beverley Minster Roll of Honour.
