Beverley born Thomas was baptised at Beverley St Mary’s at the same time as his brother Arthur on 31 Mar 1897, nearly two years after his birth. His parents, James Merritt Wilson and Jane Joanna nee Marshall married at St Mary’s, Beverley in 1887 and the family of one daughter, Ethel and 4 sons, William, Arthur, Thomas and James Bernard lived at Norwood Dale, Beverley. Thomas’s mother died in 1902. By 1911 Thomas was a grocer’s errand boy. In 1914 James died of a heart attack whilst at work, he was employed as a joiner by Pape and Son on Butcher Row for 40 years and was buried with his wife at St Mary’s.

Thomas joined the Church Lads Brigade in 1912 but he was asked to resign very shortly after his father’s death finding the strict discipline and high standards difficult. Thomas joined the Royal Army Medical Corp in Aug 1915 and served in France and Salonica. He was awarded the British and Victory medals.

Thomas returned to Beverley to live with his sister and brothers but then moved to Hull where he married Hilda Rosina Turl in 1926. In 1939 Thomas, was a grocer’s traveller, living at 85 Chanterlands Avenue, Hull with his brother James Bernard, a chemist’s assistant. Although both are married, neither are with their wives. Hilda is living at 15 Norwood with her sister-in-law Ethel, and her mother Kate and 2 others. Thomas died aged 73 in Hull in 1968.
