George Edward White was born the 22 Jul 1892 in Beverley to Charles and Mary White (nee Allison). Charles was a house painter. George had three brothers, John, Arthur, and William and six sisters, Florence, Sarah, Gertrude, Doris and Lily and Violet who were twins. In 1902 the family were living at 82 Well Lane, Beverley. By 1911 they had moved to 85 Minster Moorgate, Beverley and George was working as a tanner’s labourer at Hodgsons Tannery, Beverley.
In 1910 George joined the Territorial Army aged 17 and attested for four years. He trained at various places around Yorkshire starting at Richmond. At the beginning of the war he enlisted with the West Yorkshire Regiment and served in France in 1915. He was awarded the military medal as well as the 15 star, the Victory and the British medals.
George married Jane Tindle at Beverley Minster on 19 Jun 1915. They had three children, Edward born 1916, Richard born 1918 and Dorothy born 1920. Edward died in infancy. In 1939 George, Jane and daughter Dorothy were living at 41 Flemingate, Beverley. George worked as a gelatine works labourer. He died in 1957 aged 65.
