Edwin Voase was born the 15 Feb 1894 the son of Tom, a cabinetmaker, and Mary Ann Voase, they lived at 14 North Bar Street, Beverley. Edwin was baptised the 25 Nov 1908 at St Mary’s church, Beverley. By 1911 the family had moved to 13 North Bar Street. Edwin was now eighteen years old and was a tanner’s labourer.
Edwin joined the Northumberland Fusileers in Hull, as a private on 15 Sep 1914 and was home until the 9 Aug 1916. He served in France from 10 Aug 1916 until 4 Apr 1919. Upon leaving the army he went to live at 47 Lewis Street, Chapeltown, Leeds. He was awarded the Victory Medal and the British Medal.
On 27 Feb 1922 Edwin married Emmeline Carpenter in the church of St Clement, Leeds. They lived at 47 Lewis Street, Chapeltown, Leeds and their daughter, Doris was born the 17 Sep 1922. By 1939 they has moved to 18 Park View Avenue, Leeds. Edwin was a process worker in the heavy chemicals industry and Doris their daughter was a canvass maker. Edwin died in 1963 in Leeds, aged 69.
