Private Dick Watson Taylor was born the 4 Mar 1898, in Beverley and baptised at St Nicholas Church the 25 Jan 1900, the son of Dawson, tanners labourer, and Hannah Taylor. The family were living at 21 Mill Lane Beverley, in 1901 eventually moving to 47 Mill Lane by 1911. Dick joined the 5th Yorkshire Regiment as a Private and was recorded as wounded in France by the Beverley Guardian 7 Oct 1916. He was sent to recover from his wounds at the Southwark Military Hospital, London, with a photograph of him in the Beverley Guardian 14 Oct 1916. He recovered from his wounds and returned to France, where on 27 Mar 1918, he was captured and became a prisoner of war. Dick survived the war and was released and returned to Beverley in Dec 1918, he was awarded the British War Medal, Victory Star.
Dick had moved to Claro, near Ripon by 1939 and was working as a postman, he was married to Sarah, with whom he has 3 children. Dick died at Claro in Mar 1967.
