George Frederick Teal was born in Denton in Wharfdale the 10 Jul 1896, the son of George and Elizabeth Teal. He was orphaned by 1905 sent to his uncle at Holme on the Wolds. By 1911 he was employed as a horse lad at Dalton Holme.

George enlisted with the British Field Artillery, he was wounded in 1917 and was discharged from the army on 26 Dec 1917, he was awarded the Silver War Badge, the Victory and British War Medal. The war badge records state that his service prior to 21 October 1915 was forfeited due to fraudulent enlistment.

George married Alice Railton in 1919 in Beverley. They had five children. In 1939 the family were living in Highgate, Beverley and his was working as a general labourer. George died in Beverley and was buried at Queensgate Cemetery on 13 Jan 1971, Alice died in 1964.
