Alfred Tattersall was was born in Beverley in 1896, the son of Frederick and Annie Marie Tattersall (nee Venables). In 1911 he was a labourer at the shipyard and he was living at home with his mother and 5 siblings.
Alfred joined the 5th Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment (the Green Howards). On 14 Sep 1916 the Regiment started to attack the Wonderwerk including part of the Hohenzollern trench in preparation for the Battle of Thiepval. On 15 Sep Alfred was wounded. On the same day his brother Walter was killed serving with the same force.
Alfred was awarded the Victory and British medal. Alfred was still serving in the army when he received his medals.
Alfred died in 1932 aged 35.
