Edward was born in Beverley the 5 Nov 1883 and baptised 29 Nov 1883 at Beverley Minster, the son of Edward Thackeray and Fanny. Edward junior was a labourer after leaving school but he later became a groom in Driffield, living at 13 George Street by 1911 with his wife Beatrice and daughter Gladys born 1907. Edward married Beatricve Jackson at Beverley Minster on 30 Aug 1905. Sons Edward S and Walter were born in 1915 and 1920 respectively. The family moved to Durham but then returned to Beverley, living on Wilbert Lane.
Edward served in the Army Service Corps as a motor driver. His photograph in the Beverley Guardian in Aug 1917 carries a reference to the “HAMT”. Edward was discharged on 11 Oct 1919, he was awarded the War and Victory Medals.
Edward address was given as Shirley Row, Fence Houses, County Durham on leaving the army and he spent the rest of his life in this area. In 1939 he was a chauffeur and gardener living at Bunker Hill, Houghton-le-Spring. He died 1955 aged 71.
