Thomas Twiddle was born in Walkington the 27 Aug 1895 and baptised at the parish church on 22 Sep 1895, the son of Richard Twiddle and Mary, originally from Burton Fleming and Speeton respectively. After their marriage in the Driffield area in 1886 they lived in Rudston before moving to Walkington. Richard was a farm labourer but by 1911 he was a farm baliff. Thomas was working as a ploughboy at Westfield Farm, Walkington in 1911. Before joining up he was working at Walkington House for T S Stephenson.

Thomas served as a gunner in the Royal Field Artillery probalby from 1916. His photograph was published in the Beverley Guardian in Jun 1917 with information that he had been wounded, no information is available as to his wounds. He remained in the army and left with the rank of Sergeant on 31 Mar 1920. He was awarded the War and Victory Medals.

Thomas returned to work on the land, by 1939 he was the foreman of a market garden in Skidby. He lived at 4 Shift’s Inn Cottages, Beverley High Road, Skidby with his wife Muriel. He married Muriel Baker at St Mary’s Church, Beverley on 20 Nov 1923. Muriel died in York in 1956 and Thomas died in 1958 aged 62.
