William Bugg was born in 1883 in Thearne, the son of James and Fanny Bugg (nee Etherington). On 29 Jan 1905 William married Fanny Palmer, Later that year their daughter Doris was born. By 1908 they had moved to Hull and William was working as a lighterman, Mavis was born and died the same year, Claude was born in 1910 and died in 1911, and Ida was born in 1912, Horace was born 1916, Claude born 1918, james born 1921, Dora born 1923, Freda born 1926 died 1931 and Jean born 1929.

William enlisted as Private 4213 in the East Yorkshire Regiment on 10 Sep 1917, but was Sapper 333057 in the Royal Engineers when he was discharged with a Silver Badge on 9 Jan 1918. William was awarded, the British War and Victory Medals. His brother James, was killed in action while serving with the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment and is remembered on the Beverley War Memorial.

William and Fanny moved back to Beverley, William working as a keelman on the Beck and by 1939 he was a keel captain and the family were living at 5 Sparkmill Terrace, Beverley.William Bugg died in 1942 in Beverley, the only thing to mark to his passing being a thank you for the sympathy note from Fanny in the Beverley Guardian.
