John Charles Bowser was born in Beverley in 1894. In 1911 he was living with his parents John William and Sarah Jane Bowser at Foreman’s Yard, Ladygate, Beverley. His father was a groom at the public house, possibly the White Horse. Charles had one brother Herbert and three sisters, Cissy Caroline and Ethel. Herbert also served during the war. John Charles enlisted at Beverley in Dec 1915 and was placed in the reserve until Jun 1917, when he was discharged as unfit for service due to ill health. He had contacted rheumatic fever earlier in life. John died in 1926 aged 32 years
