George Henry's mother Julia came from Glasgow arriving in Beverley around 1879 with her husband, John Seaton, a tannery worker. John died in 1881 and left Julia with son, Albert and daughter, Julia living in Flemingate. George Henry's father, George, was raised by a family of agricultural workers in Bourn, Cambridgeshire but by 1881 he was working as a tanner's labourer and boarding with grocer Henry Hansom in Flemingate, Beverley.

Julia Seaton and George Sanders married in Beverley Minster in 1882. George Henry was born the 25 Aug 1896 and baptised at Beverley Minster the 25 Sep 1896. By 1911 the family was living at 28 Minster Moorgate and George Henry, aged 14, was an errand boy for a confectioners.

According to the Beverley and East Riding Recorder, George Henry enlisted with the East Yorkshire Regiment in Jan 1916 and was in France by Apr 1916. As a member of the 8th Battalion, attached to 8th Brigade, 3rd Division he found himself on the front line of the Battle of Bazentin Wood, where 19 year old Private George Henry Sanders died. In Jul 1917 George's parents placed an "In Memoriam" in the Beverley Guardian, part of which says "We know not where his body is laid, but he is safe in God's keeping."

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records George's final resting place is in Caterpillar Valley Cemetery, Longueval. He is remembered in Beverley on the Hengate War Memorial, the East Yorkshire Memorial in Beverley Minster and on the Wesley Circuit (Beverley) Roll of Honour.
