Richard Skinner was born in Beverley in Jul 1896, the son of Francis and Emily Skinner, of Far Grove Norwood. Prior to enlisting into the Yorkshire Regiment in 1915 he was employed as a tanner's labourer.
The 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment were involved in the heavy fighting around Courcellette during the Battles of the Somme in 1916 and it was here that Richard was wounded. Following his recovery he was transferred to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and was discharged in Mar 1919.
Richard was awarded the Victory Medal, British War Medal, and 1915 Star. His photograph appeared in the Beverley Guardian on 23 Sep 1916 following his wounding. He is commemorated on the Norwood Street Shrine
Richard married Frances Burnett at Beverley Minster on 24 Jan 1920, Richard died in 1975.
