Harry Scoffin born in 1889 was the eldest son of William Scoffin, a joiner in Beverley, and Betsy. Harry was a regular soldier, having enlisted in the British Army in July 1909, before enlisting he was a schoolteacher.
Harry was stationed in England throughout the war with the Royal Garrison Artillery, at Sheppey in Kent, and Woolwich where he instructed cadets at the Royal Military Academy. In Dec 1918 he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (Home). This medal was awarded, not only for gallantry, but also for "meritorious conduct when not in the face of the enemy."
His brother Walter was killed in Mar 1918, but brothers George William and Frank, both survived
Harry remained in the Regular Army, continuing to serve up to and into Second World War, serving in Bermuda in the early 1920s, and with Royal Regiment of Artillery in 1939 in Doncaster.
Harry married Annie E Nottingham of Beverley in Mar 1914, they had four children, Mildred, Harry, Joyce and Hugh. Annie died in Feb 1936, and Harry remarried in 1939 in Doncaster, to Martha Roden. His died in 1956 aged 67, his death was registered in Don Valley
