Ernest Sydney Robson was born the 25 May 1898 in Beverley, the son of David and Martha Robson, David was a hairdresser. He had 3 brothers Harold, James and Percy and a sister Margery. In 1901 they lived in Butcher Row, Beverley, by 1911 the family had moved to 4 Wednesday Market, Beverley.

On 13 Aug 1914 Ernest, Percy and Marjorie emigrated to America with their father, David. They departed from the Port of Liverpool on the SS Baltic and arrived in New York on 23 Aug 1914. They all lived in Cook County, St Louis, Missouri and Percy found work as an electrician. His father remained a hairdresser. When the family emigrated in 1914, mother Martha stayed in Hull, she died in 1955 aged 85.

Ernest enlisted on 30 Jun 1917 with the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Forces and served as a private. He was discharged in 1919 as being medically unfit.

Ernest married Anna Laura Pomeroy in Illinois, on the 25 May 1918. They had a son Ernest born 1920, the family lived in St Louis. During the Second World War Ernest was drafted into the USA army. Ernest died in Jun 1971 and is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, St Louis.
