Frederick was born 26 Jul 1880, in the 1881 Census at 8 months old he was living with Lucy Peck his widowed grandmother at 2 Arnotts House, Norwood Grove, Beverley. By 1891 he was living in Dannatt’s Yard, Beverley, with his mother Annie Staveley Peck and his stepfather William Sparks, a barber. In 1901 he was living with his uncle Henry Freear, a stoker at the gasworks, and his wife Agnes at Boyt Lane, Beverley and he was employed as a groom. Frederick married Susan Wills in Balby with Hepthorpe on 21 Sep 1902, they had four children, Edward William, Harold John, Victor Wills and Frances Mary. In 1911 Frederick was a domestic coachman, living at 3 Ouston Terrace, Beverley.

Frederick was working as a chauffeur when he joined the Royal Army Service Corps in Beverley in 1916. He was called up for service as a private on 30 Jun 1916, he was 35 years 11 months old; 5’ 5” in height, and weighed 126 lbs. His next of kin was shown as his wife Susan Peck of 7 Molescroft, Beverley, and his children were aged between 7 and 14.

Frederick’s Army number was M2/19274 and he was part of the Expeditionary Force in France. He had served for two years when he was killed in action on the 8 Sep 1918 in France, he was 38 years old. His was buried in Lebucquiere Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas-de-Calais, Nord-pas-de-Calais. His widow Susan, received two war gratuities of £10.15.1 and £9.10.0 in Jan and Dec 1919.

Frederick William Peck was awarded the Victory and British Medal.
