John William Parker was born in Beverley the 7 Jul 1889 and baptized on 8 Jul 1889 at St John’s Catholic Church, Beverley, the son of Henry Grantham Parker, born in 1863 in Landguardfort, Suffolk and Kate (nee Westerby), born in Beverley c.1866. Henry and Kate married in Beverley in 1888. Henry died in 1899, aged 36, the family continued to live in Walkergate, Beverley.
John enlisted with the 9th Yorkshire and Lancashire Regiment on 4 Sep 1914. He was wounded in the arm in 1917 and discharged from the army on 2 Aug 1917. He was awarded the Victory and British medals as well as the Silver Badge.
In 1917 he returned to Beverley and began working at the Post Office. On 8 Nov 1919 he married Lily Frost at St John’s Catholic Church, Beverley. They moved to Middlesbrough where John continued his work with the Post Office. They had two children Nora born 1921 and Betty born 1924.
John died on 29 Jan 1953, in Middlesbrough
