Private Harry Pougher was born 1884 in Beverley, the son of Henry, a painter from Beverley and Anne Pougher (nee Tate), he had one brother and 5 sisters. Harry followed his father into the painting business and according to the 1911 census he was a painter with the North Eastern Railway Company. Harry married Jeanette Myers at Hull Register Office on 9 Nov 1907, they had 4 children; Robert Sidney, Marjorie Alicia, Amy Mary and Sarah Elizabeth.
Harry enlisted as a private in the 4th Hull Battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment on 21 Nov 1914. In 1915 he served in France and in Dec 1915 embarked for Port Said, Egypt where his Battalion defended the Suez Canal. Harry was wounded in the field on the 13 Nov 1916 and on 17 Dec he was transferred to England, he died of his wounds on 4 Feb 1917 at Norfolk General Hospital, aged 32. Private Harry Pougher was buried with full military honours in Queensgate Cemetery, Beverley
Harry was awarded the British War Medal, Victory Medal and the 1914/15 Star.
