Description | Work completed by volunteer includes the following information:
Frank Oldfield was born on 21 Feb 1891 to George and Mary Elizabeth Oldfield the third of eleven children living at 60 Beckside, Beverley.
Frank enlisted in the East Yorkshire Yeomanry and disembarked in Egypt on 10 Nov 1915. He was transferred to the Northumberland Fusiliers, the Labour Corps and finally the Machine Gun Corps. He was awarded the Victory and British Medals and the 15 star and is remembered on the Beckside roll of honour.
Nothing more is known of Frank after the war, save for one snippet from the Hull Daily Mail in 1921 when after a daytrip to Scarborough with his parents and a Miss Lily Clarke, Arthur and his father George were sued by a Edward Newham a garage proprietor. It seems that due to a shortage of oil their hired car broke down at Whitby and had to be towed back. The garage sued them for £34 9s 2d for damage to the vehicle. They were in the end ordered to pay the sum of £27 7s 1d. Mrs. Oldfield and Miss Lily Clarke returned home alone on the train.
