Alfred was born in Burton Agnes the 3 Aug 1886 and baptised in the parish church on 18 Oct 1886. He came from a farming family and was one of six children born to Richard Noddle and Emma (nee Ashby). Alfred worked as a farm labourer and was recorded in the 1901 census at Manor Farm, Haisthorpe. He later worked at the East Riding Asylum where between 1910 and 1913 he gained a Cert P.A. in nursing and was later a registered mental health nurse. On 7 Aug 1915 he returned from military service in the Newcastle area to marry Letitia Sample at Beverley Minster. Letitia also worked at the asylum as a housemaid. Between the wars Alfred continued to work at the asylum whilst the 1939 register records Letitia as being a housewife. They later moved to Newport, South Wales and they died there in 1976 and 1966 respectively.
