George Robert Landamore was born at Etton the 24 Jun 1897 and baptised the 1 Aug 1897. He was the eldest son of George James Landamore, a shepherd, and his wife Mary Ann (nee Staveley). George had an older sister, Mary Elizabeth and three younger siblings, John Staveley, Arthur Ernest and Edith Annie.

George enlisted in 1916 with the 6th (Service) Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment, Pioneers to the 32nd Infantry Brigade, 11th (Northern) Division and embarked for France with a batch of reinforcements when the Division returned from Gallipoli and Egypt 1-3 Jul 1916, just in time for the Somme Battle of Flers-Courcelette.

The 6th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment took part in the Battles of the Somme in 1916. They were at the Battle of Messines in June 1917 and fought at Langemarck, Polygon Wood, Broodseine and Poelcapelle in the Battles of 3rd Ypres, 1917. A small scrap of paper listing sick and wounded, and dated 22 May 1918, states George was at District 5 Rest Camp, St Martin, Boulogne, Pas de Calais and at some stage, according to the Beverley Guardian of 26 Oct 1918, he was attached to 13th Field Ambulance.

George married Kate Williamson at Beverley Minster on 26 Jan 1924. They had two children, Barbara Joan born 1924 and Cyril born 1926. In 1939 George, Kate and their children lived at 40 North Bar Without, Beverley and George was employed as a public works contractor's labourer.

Kate died aged 72 in Nov 1976. George died in 1982 aged 84.
