Percy King was born in 1888 in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, the son of George and Annie King, one of four children. In 1891 Percy was living with his parents at 7 Maypole Road, Illford, Romford. By 1901 the family had moved to 149 Herbert Road, East Ham. Percy joined the Army in about 1907, and by 1911 was stationed at Longmoor Camp with the 1st East Yorkshire Regiment as a Transport Driver.

Percy married Nellie Walker at Beverley Minster on 8 Oct 1913. Nellie was living at Longcroft and Percy was living at Victoria Barracks. As well as a transport driver for the military, Percy used to be the postman for Victoria Barracks. He served in the First, Seventh and Tenth Battalions of the East Yorkshire Regiment. At the time of his death he was serving with the Seventh Battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment. The War diaries for this regiment states that the Battalion on 21 Aug 1918, had hot tea on arrival at Arqueves, France. They then moved some 10km Eastward en route to support the Dorset and West Yorkshire Regiments. Extensive fighting against the Germans took place on 24 Aug 1918 at this location, Percy was killed and was buried where he died. Percy received the Victory medal and the British medal, which were sent to his wife, after his death, along with his effects.
