George was born and brought up in Leconfield the second son of George Jackson Jessop, an estate agricultural labourer and Kate Ireland they lived in Leconfield all their married lives raising 14 children. Kate and George Jackson Jessop were buried at St Catherine's church, Leconfield. By 1911 George was a cowman working for Molescroft farmer and cattle dealer, William Brumfield.
George enlisted with the 5th Yorkshire Regiment and his army medal card records that he landed at Boulogne on 17 Apr 1915, and he was awarded the 1915 Star together with the British and Victory medals. A photograph of him wearing his 5th Yorkshire cap badge appeared in the Beverley Guardian in Nov 1915, at some point he was transferred to the Labour Corp.
Trade Union membership records of the Hull branch of the Operative Bricklayers' Society for members on active service from 1914-1920, include George, he made two claims for rheumatism in the 1914-1916 period.
In 1924 George married Mary Jane Crawford in Sculcoates and the couple moved to Ings Lane, North Ferriby. Mary died in 1937 and is buried at All Saints Church, North Ferriby. The couple had no children. George lived for the rest of his life at 4 Brickyard Cottages, North Ferriby. At the time of the 1939 Register he gives his occupation as road builder and he has a housekeeper. In 1952, George died, age 61 and like his wife, he was buried at All Saints Church. He left a small estate to Kitty Mainprize, nee Jessop and Rose Newlove, nee Crawford.
