Charles Edwin Jenkinson was born 23 Apr 1892 and was baptised at Beverley Minster 13 May 1892. He was the first son of Thomas and Mary Ann Jenkinson (nee Hancock). He had a younger brother Stanley Frederick born 3 Dec 1893. Thomas and Mary Ann died within a month of each other in early 1895 and the two brothers were brought up by their grandmother Mary Hancock in Beckside, Beverley. In 1911 Charles joined the West Yorkshire regiment for 6 months and then enlisted with the Army Service corps for 3 months. In 1913 he moved to Australia on the Ballarat.
On 26 Sep 1914 Charles enlisted with the Australian Imperial Force at Melbourne and served at Gallipoli and Egypt. He was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, the Victory and British War medals and served until 1920.
Charles married Irene Christiana Gill in 1924 in Victoria Australia. Irene died in 1952 at Maribyrnong, Victoria, Australia. Charles died at Frankston, Victoria, Australia on 13 May 1959 aged 67
