Harry Jude was born in Beverley the 11 Apr 1881. He was one of nine children born to John Jude and Harriet Bales who married in 1865. John Jude was a farm labourer originally from Garveston, Norfolk; he later worked as a general labourer, latterly for Beverley Corporation. After the death of his first wife John remarried in 1886 and with his new wife Margaret Ford had a further four children. Harry was brought up on School Lane, Walkergate, Trinity Lane and later Chantry Lane, Beverley. Harry like his brother Charles, worked for the North Eastern Railway as a platelayer in the Hull area.
On 28 Jan 1902 at St Augustine of Hippo Church, Hull, Harry married Hannah Elizabeth Smith, from Skirlaugh. Their first child, Hilda, was born the 21 Mar 1905 and christened at Beverley Minster the 9 Apr 1905. The family were living in Norwood Grove but later that year they emigrated to Canada and lived in the toronto area of Ontario. Their son, Sidney, was born there on 12 Jul 1911. They visited the UK in 1913 and then seemed to have moved to British Columbia where Harry worked as a farmer in the town of Fermidge, BC.
On 5 Feb1916, at the age of 34, at Murrayville, British Columbia, Harry enlisted, joining the 172nd Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force as a private. He later joined the 127th Battalion and rose to the rank of acting-sergeant. He arrived in France on 13 Jan 1917 but it is not known where he saw action on the Western Front. He was discharged on 1 Apr 1919 and he received the War and Victory Medals.
After the war Harry continued to work as a farmer in New Westminster, BC. He died on 29 Sep 1939 aged 58.
