Charles Henry Tennyson Ashbridge was born in Beverley the 11 Oct 1880 and baptised at Beverley Minster the 18 Nov 1880, the son of John Edward Needham Ashbridge, an agricultural labourer born in Catwick in 1857 and Elizabeth Ann (nee Pinching) born in 1855 in Norfolk. Charles had 6 siblings; Benjamin, Herbert, Walter, Percy, Lavinia and Kate. The family originally lived in Molescroft, later living at 27 Lairgate and Hind’s Yard, Keldgate, Beverley. Charles’s father died in 1894 and in 1897 his mother married Mathew Henry Baildom, born in 1856 at Great Carlton, Lincolnshire, a shepherd and farm worker. They moved to Harworth, Nottinghamshire and later to Stancil and Bawtry near Doncaster. The family continued to be divided between Beverley and that area. Charles was employed as a bricklayer’s labourer. On 19 Oct 1910 Charles married Grace Humphries of Hurn View, at Beverley Minster, they lived at 145 Keldgate.

Charles possibly enlisted in 1916 and joined the 5th Yorkshire Regiment as a Private. At some point in 1918 Charles moved to the 1/4 Battalion of the York and Lancaster Regiment. He was awarded the Victory and British medals.

Charles returned to Beverley, he died in Mar 1933 and was buried at Queensgate Cemetery, Beverley on 25 Mar 1933. Grace died in 1949.
