Crimes and punishment:
14 Oct 1886 neglecting to report himself going off duty on the 14th instant and not visiting the Detective Department between 10am and 9pm, severely reprimanded by the Acting Chief Constable
28 Aug 1888 being worse for drink and unfit for duty at 5.10pm on the 28 Aug 1888 also for using improper language to Sergeant Andrews (who reported him as above) at the same time and place, reduced to Merit Class Constable and to be placed under supervision for 6 months and if reported upon favourably to be reinstated to his former position [by the] Chief Constable
8 Jun 1889 being worse for drink and unfit for duty when on special duty at the Town Hall at 8.25pm on the 9th June 1889 severely reprimanded and fined 2 days pay by the Chief Constable
4 Sep 1889 being worse for drink and unfit for duty after 11pm on the 4th instant also for being in the Imperial Hotel during prohibited hours viz after 11pm on the 4th inst., removed from the Detective Department and reduced from 33 to 29 shillings per week
30 Sep 1889 fighting with a man when on the sick list, resigned 9th October 1889

17 Mar 1886 promoted to 1st Class Detective @ 33 shillings per week
28 Aug 1888 reduced to Merit Class Constable @ 29 shillings
8 Dec 1888 promoted to Detective @ 33 shillings per week
